Our Delivering Quality Healthcare MSc has been created for experienced healthcare professionals and is designed to empower you to operate at an advanced level within your field. The programme is informed by the current healthcare agenda and supports the transformation of healthcare, enabling more integrated care to drive the quality care agenda.
Programme overview
Contemporary healthcare professionals require high level professional knowledge as well as in-depth understanding of the context within which healthcare is managed and delivered. This approach ensures safety in the clinical setting through the implementation of evidence-based practice. The delivery of high quality healthcare is as much about understanding the context and bigger picture, as it is about modern advances in healthcare. Often, problems affecting one area of practice may have their origins in another. This highlights the need to work in an integrated, solution-focused way.
The curriculum of this programme reinforces the need for the professions to revalidate their registration with the regulatory bodies by demonstrating improvement in their care delivery through lifelong learning. Staff in the School of Health Sciences are motivated to support students to meet the challenges they face in their practice with a solution-focussed approach, utilising the existing evidence base whilst demonstrating creativity in their own research approaches to further enhance professional knowledge.
The programmes aim to create managers and practitioners able to:
- Innovate in healthcare delivery to improve the patient experience
- Lead, commission or implement change that results in improved health outcomes for patients
- Understand how to measure quality, see patient safety as paramount and know how to recognise systems and processes that are more or less likely to have safe outcomes for patients
- Integrate care rather than work as unidisciplinary teams or organisations
- Take advantage of technology to improve direct patient care
- Make sense of the growing value of computerised health, social care and other ‘big data’ sources
